The Paladin, Shadowknight, and Warrior make up this archetype. Tank characters normally have the highest health and defense compared to any other character, and as such is usually the one who pulls for the group. Tanks utilize damaging strikes, self-heals, life drains, hate generating taunts, and combinations thereof to maintain the attention of their foes. Because of the highly active nature of their role, it is a good idea for tank characters to stock up on food and drinks before heading off to a group, to ensure as little downtime between pulls as possible.

Masteries[]

Tank characters have special masteries available to them that are unavailable to other archetypes, with the exception of Natural Mending which is also available to Melee characters.

Master Classes (Archetype)[]

All four archetypes possess two unique master classes that only characters whose class is within that archetype can unlock. These master classes typically have much higher requirements to achieve than a normal master class, but can provide extremely powerful benefits for particular playstyles.

The two archetype master classes available to tanks are: Soldier and Heroic Were-Hunter.

Obtaining the Soldier master class tag unlocks the following CMs:

  • Soldier's Cry: Taunt. ? PWR. Instant cast. ? recast.
  • Veteran: HP +500, AC +250

HEROIC WERE-HUNTER

Requirements: 250 STR | 100 INT | Arcane Regeneration | Arcane Rejuvination | Heroic Wit 3

Obtaining the Heroic Were-Hunter master class tag unlocks the following CMs for purchase:

  • Vital Strike: Strike; ? DMG (+?% STR, +?% INT). ? PWR. Instant cast. 5 second recast.
  • Danger Awareness: AGI +25, INT +25, WIS +25, FR +25, LR +25, DEF MOD +1
  • In order to unlock Heroic Were-Hunter, a player must complete the first Were-Hunter related quest starting at level 30, and become "branded". This will permanently prevent them from becoming infected by lycanthropes, and allow them to unlock were-hunter related CMs, including Heroic Were-Hunter (assuming all other prerequisites have been met).
